RT1366 - Tips for Genealogical Research

Session Description

I will present ideas that I have garnered through 30 years of personal research and working as a Research Consultant at the FHL to make researchers more effective in their research. For example, we will look at how and why to source, proper use of indexes, keeping research logs, backing up, considering variations in name spellings, digitizing documents, and a few other topics. Of particular interest, I will discuss using different search parameters to achieve different results in online databases, searching in multiple indexes (such as Ancestry.com and FamilySearch) if a person cannot be located in one of them, and using different media to find the same document to see differences in quality.
