Session Description

Understanding British naming customs and patterns is an important help for researchers doing family history. As crucial to genealogists is the fact that many British emigrants brought these naming traditions with them to America. This important class will discuss naming patterns of the English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh, with their similarities and differences. The class will learn about traditional and online sources for understanding names and naming patterns. The class will also discuss clues names give indicating the possible place and time ancestors lived in the British Isles and where and why they might have settled in America.
